the H2OBreaker
The H2OBreaker is an automatic Plumbing Leak Control System.
The H2OBreaker
is installed in the water main of your home, or office, to automatically stop flow if water continually drips or a pipe breaks anywhere in the plumbing system,
defends your house against flooding by centrally monitoring flow through every inch of pressurized plumbing in your home,
provides your house with insurance against mold damage due to excessive moisture caused by accidental plumbing discharge.
The H2OBreaker consists of a water flow controller, sensor, and valve with the following features:
1. The homeowner easily sets the maximum time, in MINUTES, and the maximum volume, in GALLONS, of anticipated flow for any single water use period.
2. The system monitors the elapsed time of flow and takes action to stop flow if flow continues beyond a preset MINUTES limit.
3. The system monitors the volume of flow and takes action to stop flow if flow continues beyond a preset GALLONS limit. This is an upgrade beyond monitoring only the elapsed time, as it will limit the water damage in the event of a high flow rate failure.
4. The system monitors the changes in flow rate. This system therefore has some ability to differentiate between normal water use and an actual plumbing failure. When the system observes a sufficient decrease in flow rate (unlikely in an actual plumbing failure) it resets to zero both the measured elapsed time and the total volume of flow. The people in the building, who are using water, are not inconvenienced by frequent “false alarms”.
5. The active control may be easily switched-off from any faucet. When you turn the water on-off-on, the controller recognizes this as a signal to suspend control for the remainder of the present water use, regardless of the time or volume admitted. This is useful when prolonged water flow is intended, for example, when filling a pool or watering a lawn. The active control is automatically restored when the water use stops. This programmed function converts faucets into remote controls, eliminating the need to hardwire switches throughout the house.
6. The system will first check if leak is real by pulsing the water off-and-on several times before permanently stopping flow. This allows the people using water to respond by momentarily stopping the flow at the faucet. This response will immediately restore water flow.
7. The system will learn and will automatically increase either the MINUTES or GALLONS limits of flow to decrease the chance of future “false alarms”. The new values are automatically written to the controller memory.
8. The controller will fully stop the water flow if no response is made during the water-pulsed alarm period, i.e. no slowing or stopping of flow. The water will remain off until the homeowner resets the controller by pushing the reset button.
When water flows into a plumbing system there is information in the flow, i.e.,
the MINUTES of flow,
the GALLONS of flow,
the flow rate (GALLONS per MINUTE), and
the change in flow rate (constant, increasing, or decreasing).
The H2OBreaker uses this information to distinguish between an actual plumbing failure and normal water use by the people or appliances in the home. By successfully distinguishing between an actual failure and normal use, the H2OBreaker was designed to minimize the inconvenience to people in the home.
